Development of Competition Policy and Consumer Protection institutions (Paraguay)

This project was intended to strengthen the consumer protection system, achieve transparency in the relations of buying and selling of goods and services among market players and to improve the responsiveness of the government agencies responsible for the settlement of disputes related to consumer protection and fair competition.

In order to fulfill this objective we developed mechanisms of awareness and dissemination of the respective standards for consumer protection, promoting the active participation of consumer associations and other social organizations (neighborhood committees, universities, etc.). We also carried out seminars for business awareness and information to users which encouraged businesses to produce information about the standards, quality of products and the details of services offered in the market which helped boost transparency and in effect increase the information available for consumers. This component of the consultancy focused on the industries of food, medicine and durable goods.
